Gangying Silicon Carbide Waterproof Sandpaper

A wet/dry sheet built around sharp silicon-carbide grain and a tough, flexible waterproof paper that doesn’t tear or peel when soaked. The grit ladder runs from P60 stock removal all the way to P2000 for pre-polish finishing.

Why silicon carbide for wet sanding

Silicon carbide is the sharpest of the common abrasive grains. It cuts fast under light pressure and keeps cutting at very fine grits where other grains start rubbing instead of slicing - which is why black SiC paper is the standard choice for wet work. Sanding wet stops the sheet loading up with paint slurry, keeps dust out of the air and leaves a finer, more even scratch pattern than the same grit used dry.

The backing matters as much as the grain. This is a flexible, fully waterproof paper: it stays intact after soaking, folds around hand blocks and body contours without cracking, and doesn’t shed abrasive at the edges.

Working through the grits (P60-P2000)

• P60-P180 - stock removal and shaping; cutting failed coatings back to the substrate.
• P240-P400 - flatting primer and levelling filled repairs.
• P600-P800 - final sanding before base coat.
• P1000-P2000 - denibbing clearcoat, removing dust nibs and orange peel ahead of compounding and polishing.

Because the whole ladder comes from one product line, a refinisher can run every wet-sanding stage on paper with the same backing feel and cut character.

Sheet format

Sheets are 280 x 230 mm - the standard full-sheet format - so they fold cleanly into halves and quarters for hand sanding, or cut to fit sanding blocks.

Getting the best from wet sanding

Soak the sheet in clean water for a few minutes before use, back it with a rubber or foam block for flat panels, and keep the surface flushed so slurry never builds up between paper and paint. Rinse the sheet often, and wipe the panel dry to check progress under light - scratches from the previous grit should be fully replaced before stepping up. Used this way, one sheet covers far more area than the same paper run dry.

Applications

The natural home for this sheet is the auto refinish bay - flatting primer, denibbing clearcoat and feathering repairs - but it serves any trade that wet-sands to a fine finish: marine gelcoat, lacquered furniture, plastics and composite parts, and fine metal polishing at the top of the grit range.
